at Cedar Park

Basecamp's first-ever skate & bike competition — and it's happening right in our backyard.

Mark your calendars: on Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23, Cedar Park in Sandy transforms into the region's newest contest venue for The Drop In — an inaugural skate and bike competition put on by the City of Sandy Parks & Recreation. Riders from all over the Northwest will be throwing down from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days, and spectator admission is completely free.

Whether you're planning to compete, cheer from the deck, or just make a family day of it, this is shaping up to be one of the biggest action sports weekends on the mountain corridor this summer — and the Hillcrest Sports crew will be there.

The Skate Contest

The Drop In is a judged contest built for experienced and advanced skaters who are comfortable riding park features in a high-energy, jam-style format. Divisions are split by age and gender — Youth 12–17, 18–29, and 30+ for both male and female skaters.

Saturday — Qualifiers: Open jam sessions, with multiple skaters riding at once while judges score style, difficulty, creativity, flow, and consistency. Top skaters in each division punch their ticket to Sunday.

Sunday — Finals: A more structured showdown — each finalist gets two individual one-minute runs, with best overall performance taking the win.

The Bike Contest

Riders, you're up too. The bike side of The Drop In is a timed event featuring jump lines and aerial elements on both the qualifying and finals courses — best suited for riders with solid bike park or pump track experience. Same age and gender divisions as the skate contest.

Saturday — Qualifiers: Two timed runs on a roughly 30-second course, with your fastest run counting toward placement.

Sunday — Finals: An extended 45-second finals course testing speed, control, and consistency. Two runs each — fastest time takes it. Keep it clean: crashes cost you.

Not Competing? Come Hang Out

This one's built for the whole family. Beyond the contest, Cedar Park will be packed with things to do all weekend:

• Rock climbing wall
• Bike obstacle courses and skills challenges
• Food trucks, beverages, and refreshments
• Local, regional, and national vendor booths with giveaways, samples, and special offers
